failed emissions....

Its official.. I failed emissions today... Another problem to my ever growing list.... Alright, heres the run down... Normal dyno test at 15 and 25 mph here in GA.. JDM h22a here(tested for h23, are the requirements significantly different? In my favor, otherwise, no dif?) EGR is stuck closed.. Levels on HC, CO, and NO are all way way to high..

First, my EGR is blocked off.... Should I unblock it and replace with another EGR cause mine is bad.. I read somewhere just now that EGR blockoff will throw off emissions posted by 4bidden... Is this true?

Second, I am pretty sure my 8 month old cat is fried.. I was shooting flames for a week or so when the car was not happy with me.. Basicall, flames followed by hot red coals came out and its pretty safe to assume that was the walls of the cat...

Third, v-afc has not been tuned and I dont know how to tune it.. I can play with it, but I am looking to lean it out to pass emissions as this seems to eb a big part of my problems.. Anyone know how to do that? I am sure I cna fix it to run ****ty for 15 minutes and pass and be ok...

I plan on replacing the cat, EGR, and trying to lean out the v-afc... Anything else I should do or that will help me out further..

- if you get a new egr or can clean it out and get it to work that'll definitely help the NOx reading

- a new cat will definitely help you. shooting flames is not a good sign I was getting pretty high on everything last year but got a new hi flow cat this year and now I'm golden. My mechanic said it tested out like a new car.

hmm, yea the cat will bring you down alot. Im sure the dead egr wont help. How were you doing at the 15 then 25? Mine was great at 25 but total ass at 15. if you are friendly enough the tester can manipulate the speed on the test to help you pass. When i had mine done at the 15mph test he held it to more like 18-19 mph and i think thats the main thing that pushed me over.

Ohh i also removed my air filter, i figured it wouldnt hurt.

Run the lowest octane you can get, but use about 2-3 bottles of drygas per full tank. Even with my EGR blocked, original cat, 147k miles, 93 vtec, I wasnt even CLOSE to the limit in anything except HC...

Lim My Car
HC PPM 130 128
CO% .87 .18
NOx PPM 1522 460
