Here's the skinny. I have a 94 Prelude VTEC, and while I'm waiting on a couple parts to come in so I can daily drive it, I'm gonna start transferring over some of the audio stuff from my old car. I had a couple questions about how the system works from the factory. It has an aftermarket 6x9 where the factory one used to sit, and it's powered by the factory amp.
I want to replace this subwoofer with one of my choosing, but I don't know what parameters to look for. Is the factory unit a 2ohm, 4ohm, or 8ohm woofer? Also, how does the factory amp work, as far as getting a signal?
pretty sure it works by pulling a signal (positive or negative) from each of the rear speakers, for example pulling the postive from the right rear, negative from the left rear or vice-a-versa.
there's a small amp below the speaker that powers it. pretty sure it's 2 ohm also.

Good good. I'm hoping to put together in one thread as much info about the factory subwoofer as possible. Anyone have anymore info to contribute?
yeah, that would be a nice thread! I'm sure you already know that USDM and JDM woofers have differences, maybe pin-outs? I also have some photos and diagrams to add whenever you make that thread.

Any info you can contribute would be excellent. I wasn't aware that the USDM and JDM (possibly UKDM and other EDM) had differences either. I've only owned my Prelude for a week now haha. Might you have schematics/diagrams of how the system works?

I believe the only difference is that JDM/EDM woofers have an additional wire to the amp. I am unsure what it is for. Possibly something to do with the optional DSP sound system sending a signal to the amp as in addition to the amp receiving signal from the two rear speakers.
i just bought a used one with the bracket and aftermarket speaker
now im planning on running a kenwood mono amp to this speaker since i got it lying around the car came with factory 6.5 inch speakers im pretty sure those r done
i want to avoid having a big heavy box in my trunk taking up spaces
