F20 -> H22 Engine Swap Day Two - Links Fixed

Pics from Day Two, for the lazy:
F20 -> H22 Engine Swap Day One (lots of pics)

Well day two is now in the bag 8-)

Hopefully I can "unleash the hound" tomorrow

One more problem today, again nothing major, interesting that my new H22 has no knock sensor as well, strange but :dunno:

The important bit was when we took the cam cover off, not one 'clug' of oil anywhere ie. its been well serviced 8-) 8-) 8-)

Tomorrow sees the easy bit being done - the wiring , she should be good to go then

Just FYI: any OBD1 Honda knock sensor should get the job done.

Oh yeah, you MIGHT get lucky and the H22 downpipe will be a direct bolt-in (no modification of flanges needed). For USDM "S" models (f22a), this is the case. On Si's, modification of the flange is needed. Since your engine is the "equivilent" of an S model and also an F series, I'd say its possible you can just bolt her up!

Hi Tim,

I don't think the engine needs a knock sensor, we looked at the pins on the ECU (I managed to steal the OBD1 connectors from engine when it was in the original car) and there is no wire for the knock sensor :dunno:

The downpipe was a bit more of a pain, I could only source a JDM one so its JDM into UK atm, that was a bit fiddely

The O2 sensor is in place now as is the engine, we're literally adding the wires to the ECU, as we have the OBD1 connectors this should mean it'll all be nice and tidy

The H22 (regardless of country of origin) really SHOULD have a knock sensor. Pretty much all DOHC hondas come equipped with one. Double check that there isn't a red/blue wire in the D3 location:

I'll double check it again but I'm 99.9% sure D3 was empty :S

Make sure you are looking at the plugs in the correct orientation. The ECU expects a knock sensor signal, and will probably run in limp mode without one ( no VTEC engagement).

Hi,

Just to confirm there is no knock sensor, the car is throwing up a CEL atm but vtec is working fine

I think the cell may well be to do with the damaged resonator chamber that sits between the secondary butterflys actuator and throttle body.

I'll diagnose it on Sat and let you know

Dave

Just double check that the change in engine noise you may be associating with VTEC engagement isn't just the IAB system. The butterflys are easy to see if they are working, since you can see the actuator move the connecting rod.

I will double check, I'm 99.99% sure the vtec is fine though, you can here the cam change and it'll rev all the way up 8300rpm

I'd forgotten how fast this was

Do the butterflys open if you rev the car in neutral? Or is it just a case of getting the front in the air/rolling roaded, and revving it up?

Thanks again!

Dave

I remember reading that JDM B16 engines have a knock sensor, while the european B16 engines don't. Is it possible that it could be the same for H22?

I think it must be tbh

I only had to add three wires to the ecu so that was all gravy
