f*cked up brake line

yesterday, i looked at my front passenger side rim and saw this dirty dark greenish grease or oil. its all over the fenderwell, as well as the inner part of my rim and on the brake line.

I thought it might be cv grease, my clutch, or the brake lines.

I am guessing that my brake line's f*cked up somehow. What are some of your opinions?

If it is the brake line, how much and how hard would that be to fix? Can someone explain step by step how to replace the brake line? Would i have to bleed just that 1 or all 4 brakes?

If its the clutch, is that gonna be a b*tch to fix?

If its cv grease, damn! haha

Thanks in advance, peace

I'd say you CV is split. If it's the brake line, you should have fluid missing from the master cylinder.

Thats right if it was your brakes you'd notice the fluid level in the reservoir going down or the warning light coming on on the dash or at least the brake pedal being real soft.

Put the car on full stearing lock and turn it in a full circle left then right. If the CV joint is gone you will hear a clonking or clicking noice from the front axle as you turn.

cv joints die just as a part of maintaince.. they're what connect your transmission to your wheels.

if one goes out completely, your car will rev freely, but when in gear it wont go anywhere.

if a boots split and the grease is loose, you better change it FAST, because you'll be lucky it drives at all.

They're $80 or so with core charge (you bring in your old one) from discount auto parts, and if you dont know a thing about cars, i wouldnt reccomend putting one in.

But they're not TOO difficult.

Jack your car up, look at the road that has 2 harmonica looking grease holders, theres one on both front wheels, look under the side of the wheel that has grease on it, and check for leaks, etc..

and clean that crap off your before it eats it away if it can. I forget.

Yeah sounds like CV grease to me, I would get that axle replaced soon. Yeah you can get away with just replacing the boot, but its soo much of a hassle and reman axles are so cheap anyway, like that other guy said about 70-80 bucks so you might as well just replace the damn thing. I don't believe the grease eats away at paint or anything, well that's from what I remember, I know brake fluid eats it up nicely,

Oh and if your brakeline busted you probably would have no brake pedal pressure, so I think its safe to say your brakeline is cool.

what are some reasons an axle gets f*cked up? would be it driving through a bunch of dips/bumps? peeling out?

Old age, the rubber CV boots just wear out eventually, nothing you can do about it.

They car will still drive if the CV joints go out. They are lubricated with the grease, and if the boot tears and the grease come out, then the metal start moving around in there and wear more. When you turn you'll hear a clicking. If you wore off the slpines on the other end of the shaft, then yes, when you rev it would not move, but I don't think it's possible to destroy the actual CV joint to the point that the car wouldn't be drivable, unless you had some SERIOUS HP.

mine went out a month ago and i notice it was brownesh greese. i don't think its green at all. anyways, it cost about $70-80 for a cv shaft. u need one for each side. honda dealership will charge u over $200/each. the reason its soo cheap outside is because it's a rebuilt shaft. but most place will give u a lifetime warranty on what they sell u. hope that helps.
