exhaust tones, hi flow cat, test pipe

well i have a problem now, i bought an obx hi flow cat which looked very nice and had resonator on it, go to put it on start it up and my car sound like ass. very buzzy at wot about 2k-5k. i have the apexi n1 with a greddy evo style muffler w/ silencer. i didnt really notice all that much power gain but my stock cat the bolts to bolt it on are broken. there was always a little bit of a buzz in my exhaust before but the cat def. amplified it. on a 'hi flow' cat. should you be able to see straight through it? or should there be some type of screening, i was thinking of getting just a full new cat back as well, mine is to loud i want it to be quiet and no buzz. any suggestions?

could i just swap out mufflers and make it quieter, i was thinking of the ws muffler but i dunno if this will help if the buzzy sound is coming from resonators in mid pipe or something

you need to locate the sound first. I've heard in some cats a rattle from something loose inside of them. The N1 muffler is definitely where you loudness is coming from. By swaping it out with another muffler that is not so loud would definitely make it quieter while driving.
If the muffler is too loud for you, than I would try buying a quieter one first, then seeing how bad you buzzing sound is. If it is still there/bad than I would suggest buying a better cat.

I'm not sure what you mean by N1 with a greddy evo style muffler

You're best bet is to get a whole cat back and don't mess with welding on new mufflers. I had a GReddy Evo catback and loved the tone. No raspiness, buzzing or extreme loudness

well i have the full apexi n1 catback but was way to loud and buzzing for me so i cut off the muffler and welded on a greddy evo type muffler in hopes to queit it down and it did just not to the extent i was hoping for. so now i wanna try to make it even more quiet with something else

Hmm, if getting a whole new exhause is out of the question, then try to look for a larger muffler (one that has more packing) to deaden the sound a little. You could also find a muffler that isn't strait through and a little more restrictive, which should make it a little more quiet.

Did the exhaust buzz before you put in the cat? Maybe you should look into a carsound cat instead of the obx

Well, if you were to put a factory muffler on your bigger piping, that wouldn't do much good considering the much smaller inlet diameter, as well as it being much more restrictive inside the muffler...so I wouldn't do that.

I have a really bad "buzzing" noise too, I've had it for a while... it happens the most when I'm at wide-open-throttle, but it's weird, cuz it goes away for the most part after a few minutes of driving. I'm wondering if it's possible to blow a baffle out of a muffler? I don't have a very good muffler on my car, so I think that might be it, it's just that the noise started the very moment I started it up when I had bigger piping put on back to the cat.
