exhaust/muffler installation

how much does it cost do get a high performance muffler installed, not the cat back, just the muffler. Some guy told me 100 bucks, and I think it's way too high. Is it possible to do yourself? Any info would be much appreciated

yea you could do it your self but WHY just a muffler? id say get the WHOLE cat back and it prolly makes for an easier install (depending on if your muffler is the type to be welded on or not)and sounds better PLUS adds power.

I would def get the cat back if I could afford it, but I figured that I could get a muffler shop to add the cat back pipes to the new muffler when I get the money. Would a tanabe, apexi or Breddy system be better than a custom cat back from a muffler shop??

oh yes!

trust me on this one. i used to have 2.25 piping with a tanabe knock off muffler. i hated this set up. all though everything was cheap (like $125 for piping and muffler), it was so obnoxiously loud and sounded like ****. all it did was get louder the higher the RPM's got. after 2 months i decided to get the real thing and went shopping again for a nice brand name cat-back. i ended getting the A'pexi World Sport cat-back. I am in LOVE with this exhaust.

do it right the first time and get a nice cat-back like Greddy, DC Sports, A'pexi, or Thermal system. just my 2 cents from my experiance man.

take care,
tim

Get CAT back, I did the exhaust install myself, it took about an hour to get all the rubber houses unhooked and 2 of the CAT bolts out, the 3rd however was a different story - it was rusted solid and took 3 hours to get out, once it was out the new exhaust was on within 30/40mins. Just make sure you have lots of WD40 around.

My advise is, if the bolts aren't rusted solid then do the work yourself, if they are then pay someone I bashed my hands to sh!t doing mine. It was a good feeling once it was done tho!
