I am getting ready to replace my OEM clutch with a better one. I have heard nothing but good things about ACT. my friend with an accord that i drove has an exedy. very grabby, i loved the thing. Smooth. Should I replace my flywheel or just get it resurfaced and lightened? (110k miles) I have a F22B with a Si tranny.
F22B - JDM DOHC NON-VTEC. Very similar to the H23A USDM
I'd go with ACT. I also have heard nothing but good about them. I have heard good things about Exedy too, but my best friend had one in his track Prelude, and it wasn't grabby at all, so he replaced it with an ACT and now he loves it. I personally have a clutchmasters stage 3 and I love it. Extremely grabby, but very streetable.
Either one is good. I have Exedy clutch with organic disk on mine which holds about 30% more torque over stock. So far I like it. Very grabby, yet very streetable. Personally I kinda lean more towards Exedy because they're the ones that make OEM clutches for Honda. If you go FI/Nitrous or anything with serious hp/torque, go with ACT.
Just remember to break the clutch in nicely for around 500-1000 miles otherwise you won't have much grip after awhile......
Also, i believe it's better to get an aftermarket aluminum flywheel (like Fidanza or CM) and not to lighten your stock one. If the stock flywheel is not lightened/balanced perfectly, you run the risk of some major safety issues (like shrapnel eventually coming in to the cabin and cutting you up) Do a search on the lightened flywheels and you'll see what I mean......
Exedys are great, and so are ACTs. If you want a cheap and very reliable clutch for daily driving, I would go Exedy. If you plan on doing some mods, go with ACT. It all depends on what you are planning to do to you car. I went with an ACT street strip because I plan on doing some mods. The ACT is very nice, but it doesn't like stop and go traffic.
there is a group buy on right now for 20% off clutchmasters kits. I just ordered a stage 1 but haven't received it yet so I have no reviews. It has a good reputation and with the group buy it has gone down from costing the same as ACT ($350) to costing almost the same as the Exedy ($280 shipped). There are many other group buys on there for other clutchs too or check out R&D (bottom of the page) for Exedy's at $270.
