ok so i have a 92 si 4ws with a 94 h23a1 with about 170k and jus within the last week it starting making noises that make me reallly nervous

at about 2k rpm it starts knocking
sounds like it comin from the number 3 or number 4 cylinder
i thought it may have been some crazy exhaust noise but i jus got that all fixed today an it still does it but now its more aparrent cuz theres no more exhaust leaks
so i came to the conclusion that the rod bearings r going and its going to blow up soon

neone else have ne ideas?

also for anyone wondering about 4ws problems
theres was a recall in 1992 right after the 4th gen was released for the rear main steering angle sensor
it was sending the wrong signal to the 4ws control box making it go into safe mode an the 4ws light turn on (an intermitten problem)
if your call had gone through the recall there will be a punch mark above the first letter(j) in the vin number on the firewall
if not a new sensor is about 270 bucks

A bad bottom end noise has no easy fix. Pull that *****, get an H22A or H22A1 and call it a day. You could rebuild the H23 but why bother?

This fix is based solely on how deep your pockets are.

yep i agree, i had that scary knocking sound on my eclipse and before you know it the engine gives in.. and like everyone said if its at the bottom just change the engine cuz theres no point

mine has been knocking for several years. I ran some seafoam through it and it quieted down a little bit. Maybe it will go on for a little longer....then H22
