engine light after h22 swap...

i just got a jdm h22a swap done to my 94si, initially, it ran pretty bad, with engine light on.. so i went back to the shop and the cel threw out an o2 sensor code.. they swapped the o2 sensor to make sure it wasn't causing problems.. no results after that.. thinking it could be the ecu we tried to swap it with one of their ecu's.. ran the same. Then i was told it could be bad spark plugs or the like.. so they did a basic tune up.. spark plugs/wires/distributor cap and rotor/fuel filter. Now, that was done today, and the car ran a lot better, big difference.. i would say it's all good now if the engine light didn't come on again, when they checked the cel again, it didn't throw out anything that was actually a code.. no more o2 sensor problem. Yet still engine light.. =\

any ideas? thanx

Could be a code 1?

I would get my Helms right now and look for you, but I have a broken foot, and the garage is down 3 flights of stairs... but when the wife gets home I have her get it.

I've heard about this, did you have a H23 originally?

I'll ask my buddy if you did because he had the same CEL by the sounds of it...

I had a wierd code in mine. I think it might have been 36 but dont hold me to that. The code i had was unidentified. It happens with the ecu that says 4w on it. I dont think its related to 4w steer but i have no clue what it is. The code does nothing. As soon as i have NO other codes it goes away and comes back when i have other problems. No biggie, it does not effect preformance.

Good luck man, we have been trying to get my friends car going for 2 weeks now and there are sooo many bugs. But it looks like Hondata put the wrong program on my friends car so when the ecu comes back we will finally know. This nickle and dime stuff kills. First its the engine swap, then the suspension, then the rims dont fit, then the new rims dont fit, then lugs, the the axel's dont fit, then the lower sway bars dotn fit, then the exaust does not match up, then they do a crappy job on the exaust and you decide to just get the 2.25 piping done all the way back. Ha. It just keeps going and going. My friend is like 3500$ over what he was planning on spending. Crap my swap was 1400$ total.

yep, h23 in there before this..

what i've noticed is that, in the high end it doesn't affect it at all... however with the light on it hesitates a little at the low end.. something about running too rich =|

ok, gonna try to resurrect this thread cuz i got some new info

brought the car to the dealer today to see if they could figure it out.. on the drive over there the light didn't go off, and 7 hrs later, they call and tell me they couldn't get the light to turn on, and the ecu wasn't storing the code, however, while driving it they did feel some hesitation. They recommended I get a tune up, ie: spark plugs/wires, rotor/cap, etc. However, I recently had a tune up done by Blacktrax performance in san jose. Honda's reply; well, they're not honda parts. Blacktrax put in ngk wires and plugs, honda says it should be honda.
what do u guys think?

anyways, on with the story. This conversation was all on the phone, and since they were not able to set the code off i offered to go down and set it off myself, they agreed. So i did so, i went back down.. hopped on the free way, floored it through 1st and 2nd, and bam light! drove it back, and the garage was closed o.O i asked a sales person if the service people had left, and he said that the were all gone at 5:30, being 5:40, and having no warning about this before i left.. i was confused with what to do, the sales person told me that the only thing i could do was return in the morning. As i walked back towards my car i saw someone wondering the service area, so i asked him, and he directed me to the back where a mechanic was still on duty. He pulled out a pin and connected it to my blue wire plug thing and the computer threw out an o2 sensor (1 blink).. the mechanic said the o2 sensor was broken. He kept telling me that the heater in the o2 sensor does not work, at least i think he said that.. he had a heavy accent.

my question, honda's oem o2 sensor runs for 200 bux. should i find aftermarket ones? i'm currently looking for a used one on this forum but no bites yet.. i'm curious to what u guys think of my situation. sorry for the long post and thanx in advance for any info.

Hey,

Well as for the plugs/wires. OEM Honda IS NGK. The guy at Honda is trying to scam you about that.

As for the O2 sensor, there is a heater in it and if it goes I think you will get a code. $200 is pretty steep but the O2 sensor is a pretty spendy thing anyways. You could get a generic one for pretty cheap or even get a used one at a junkyard.

Good luck, HTH

since there's a~30 dollar difference between the "oem" and "universal", is the oem any better? or should i just get the universal?

wow they raised the prices i think i paid 70 for the oem one...for your question the only difference is that the oem one clips directly in. The universal you will have to cut and splice the old harness to the new O2 sensor...make sure that the wires are the same length.
