Engine cutting out whilst in motion...94 honda prelude

Hi I'm new to this forum but needing advice urgently before I go out and buy a whole engine...I've got a 94 manual Honda Prelude and for the last few days the engine has been cutting out whilst in motion. What happens is the oil light starts flickering and then everything dies (the engine cuts out, electrics go out etc). When I put it in neutral it starts back up again...there is also a rattling sound thats getting louder under my bonnet. It sounds like a "metal belt" or a "knocking"...If anyone could offer some advice I would really be greatful as I'm not at all familiar with Hondas. Thanks

If your oil light has illuminated and you restarted it without bringing the oil level up to adequate, then your engine's bearings are toast. Sorry. The warning light isn't really a warning light, more like a "Your engine is f-ed" light.

Might be able to salvage the engine by replacing all the main and rod bearings, but more likely than not, the crankshaft surfaces are mucked up enough now to render them garbage.
