I think you are confused.

VTEC engages in every gear, since it has no knowledge of gearing. It is strictly RPM dependent.

It is every gear. It should hit around 5100 rpms.

^on a dad to day basis, I use vtec maybe once a day. It all really depends on how fast you need to accelerate.

I don't think hitting vtec is really an "item" or goal, or anything. Its just the engine working more efficiently. So, if need get going fast, I'm going to ride the higher rpms for the first couple of gears because thats where the power is at.

In general, if I hit vtec, I first hit in 1st gear, then quick shift to second, maybe keeping it in vtec. But usually by the end of second I'm plenty up to speed.

On the highway, if I'm cruising and need to pass, I will drop to 4th or 3rd, that will usually put me in vtec rpm range and I can pass pretty quickly.

okay lets say your in 5th gear then shift to 3rd r any lower i think you will **** your **** up but vtec engage at every gear when you approach 5000 rpm and from my experience i recommend just going down one gear.but its your car if you want that extra bad ass vtec jerking lol

its all up to reading your rpm but its kind of hard for me to explain if i'm not there in person to show you but i think preludepower got a write up somewhere about this subject but you can't go with what others say in racing or driving your own car.You will just have to learn by trials and errors out at a safe track somewhere.

seriously, can you learn how to write??? i don't even know what you are trying to say.

If you're going 40mph in 5th gear, you could go to down 3rd if you really wanted to go.

If you really want to know the speed limit of each gear, use a gearing calculator. I used to remember the tops of each gear.

Hey I have an integra gsr b18c, do you know when my vtec engages? Cause I really can't tell, the power is very steady over every range in this car it seems.

You obviously do not know how to rev match and down shift.

It's all in the owner's manual and maybe the Helms I think. 1st gear goes up to 35, 2nd goes to 61 or 62, 3rd goes to 90 or 91, 4th goes to 121, 5th will max it out. I dunno if it's exactly right so correct me if I'm wrong. So if you're crusing at 40 and want to downshift to 2nd you can, just be careful and know what you're doing.

You need to learn how to drive then. If you know the speed ranges of each gear and can rev match. There is no reason you would have any jerking and or miss shift issues.

Ive had times where I was going around 55 or 60, rev matched to 3rd, which put it into vtec or close to, then passed with ease. For 5th gens, our 3rd gear tops out around 89mph according to this thing called your Owners Manual.

Oh, and your sig is WAY to big. Read the guide in the general rule section please.

i dont know how to rev match either... but im guessing its the gassing of the pedal to rev the car at a higher rpm to put the car in the rpm range without puttering?

Those would effectively be the maxes you would be able to do. I personally wouldn't recommend down shifting to 4th at 110mph though, as you aren't going to be getting much before you must shift back up. I would shift down to 2nd if going 45 or below, 3rd 75 or below, 4th 100 or below. Thats only me though, maybe can/should down shift higher, or maybe you shouldn't down shift when you are already that high. Rev matching is essential though if you are going to be down shifting at higher RPMs. From my understanding, its bad on the clutch to drop it without rev matching. And rev matching is exactly what it sounds like, gassing it until you have the RPMs up to what it would be in the lower desired gear.

Normally though, when I need to move past a car on the highway, its 80mph in 5th to 4th.

If you really do have VTEC, it's probably not working properly. There's no way you can't feel it on that engine. In 3rd gear, floor it all the way through past 5.2k. You'll know if working or not.
