Emergency!! Gauge cluster lamp will not turn on..

This is bad guys..... tonite, when i turned on my lights (headlamps), the gauge cluster (speedo/rpm) and interior lighting does not turn on. Also my cornerlamps do not turn on. My taillamps don't come on either.... they come on with the brake stepped but not the driving red. My headlamps came on, that's about it. Also, when i turn on/off my alarm, all the parking lamps work and the interior lights work too.... so it can't be a bulb or fuse. I need help....

With the alarm off, do your gauges turn back on also? Or no?

I'm thinking it has something to do with a faulty ground or something either with your alarm or under dash wiring. I would still check every fuse and relay just to make sure.

Also, is this an aftermarket alarm system?...or factory? Good luck chasing those wires!

Fuse

Your taillamp fuse is most likely blown. (if im wrong about taillamp, its something that has nothing to do with gauges , i dont remember if its exactly taillamp or not)

Gauges, Taillights run on the same fuse, I dont believe turn signals do, but I could be wrong.

This typically happens when your radios acc (or something w/power) touches an illumination wire. Just food for thought, I could be totally wrong with your predicament.

Either way, check every fuse, I've gotten a $10 ticket for the same thing, but I didnt even know my taillights were blown out..ugh.

On the left, next to the sunroof controls; there is a dimmer switch, that affects the gauges lights. Check that out. If its not that, its probably a fuse.

The cluster lights, tail lights, and marker lights are on the same circuit. (All the lights that come on when you turn the headlight switch 1 click)

On my 84 Prelude and on my friends 91 Civic, the marker light circuit contact in the headlight switch went bad. When you turned the switch 1 click, no lights, 2 clicks, only headlights.
When I armed the alarm, all the marker lights flashed cause thats how the alarm was wired. That told me that the circuit worked, it wasnt a fuse problem, it had to be the switch.

This is what it *could* be, it could also be something else. If you have an alarm see if your cluster flashes, if it does, it could be the switch. If not, might check the fuses.

checked all fuses..... all wires..... looks like the switch.... where can i find a damn switch now? We (my dad owns a wrecking yard) looked at a 91 civic switch.... looks exactly the same, might swap it over tomorrow.

But thanks for the help.... if anyone else has suggestions... let me know.

thanks

I decided to bring this thread back to life. Z, did you ever replaced that switch? What happened and did your lights work? I have the same problem. IS this guy still even around? Haha.

Oh course i'm still around! It was actually interesting, it was not any fuses or the switch. One of the wires under the dash was faulty and when u touch it a certain way, all the lights would come back on, since then it hasn't happened again...

DAMN THIS IS AN OLD OLD OLD THREAD!
