***Electrical problem*** Please Help!

CEL is ON.
Speedometer does NOT work.
BRAND NEW alternator. connections are good.
Battery is good. terminals are good.
For a couple months now the battery light was flickering/fading on and off while driving. I noticed there may be a short of sum sort because of this and my speedometer would also flicker through different mphs (20 to 62to 55 to 40 to 33 ...etc).
A week ago my entire dashboard and gauges(including clock, radio, and climate control) COMPLETELY SHUT OFF! I also noticed my headlights were very dim!...then about a couple minutes later they turned back on; on with my headlights!
NOW a couple days ago i entered my car and noticed my car was completely dead!
I have also noticed my car has lost some of its power
Do you know of any places to start?
What do i need to look at?
Is it really a short? Bad ground?
What else do you recommend?
Should i get my alternator checked?
