I have started this conversion and it is very tedious so far. I might take some pics to show how I did it as well. I should have it done by the weekend after this since I will be gone this weekend. I will see how it turns out.
It definitely shouldn't be hard at all. Just a little time consuming. Be careful not to get fingerprints on the black facing...they don't come off.
Here's mine freshly finished. I'm back to stock now, though. It matched my stereo perfect, but my climate controls were still green and I was lazy. I'm thinking about going back, though. Kinda want them all red.
did u ever have ur speedometer needle move on ur el cluster when u were putting it together? what is the 3 wire plug for that plugs into the harness on the passenger side. I dont have a place for it and I'm converting to the el cluster and have the upper dash harness. anything would be helpful. and yes i tend to be very picky so it took a while to properly cut and align the acetate. i used 5 layers so im hoping it will be a very nice blue.
The EL gauge conversion has been covered many times. Use the search function to find the answers to your questions.
I had to move my needles to get the face apart. They still work fine. Five layers is quite a bit...the light output will be dark. Three layers was perfect for mine.
Yeah, for now. I can't decide what I want. I need something with low miles (50k or less. 30k preferred) and reliability, sporty and quick, but I don't really want a new car or something that costs $20,000.

Ground the black wire, the other 2 where unused IIRC.

I would charge $125. That would include all supplies and return shipping for the gauges. The conversion could be completed in one day (two days in a bad situation), tested, and shipped out the next.
I know this is raising the dead with this old post, but I've been searching on here for a while and can't find the original post on how to do this conversion...any help boys ?
