Will the check engine light become every time when some error occures? I mean is it needed to check error codes by connecting the service conector when there is no check engine light?

I am pretty sure that NO code will be "spit out" if the check engine light is not tripped.. However sometimes if you get an intermittent CEL the code IS saved and you can check for a code even if the CEL light is not actually on..
