They are not very easy. It involved desoldering the old chip from the main PCB in the ECU and then soldering in the new socket. The soldering involved requires considerable precision (i.e. not something to do in your garage).

Good luck and be careful.

I got the cheapo ebay spoon knockoff, works great and there is a rev limiter at 8500, tested it.

I would not put that in yourself unless you have a tiny tiny tip on your solder gun, and are masterful with it, the solder on there is very precise as stated above, Luckily my mom works for a laser company and I got it hooked up for free.

personally I would never trust a chip you buy off EBay. Anyone could sell you something that says "Spoon" or "Mugen". I would have had the ECU chipped legitimately.

It's called buying what you can afford, not everyone can afford the name spoon or especially mugen that stuff is so overpriced.
I am very happy with my chip, I investigated his website, emailed the shop he works out of, so I think it was legite,I can't see how people can sell stuff that is no good, they would have law suits up the arss!
Also even if the chip didn't have a good program, the risk was minimal.

I would suggest for those chipping their ecu to get an air fuel gauge.

I'm very new to tuning. I just had I/E/H mods on my '92 Si. Does this ECU chip replacement work the same as AFC that modifies air-to-fuel ratio? I don't have a problem with replacing a chip. Does ECU chip replacement also requires a tuning with a dyno?

No, what chipping your ECU does is change the fuel map settings, usually making you run rich or in some cases of cheap/incorrect chips, lean out which is bad... very bad. That equals a *boom* its very rare but I would rather be safe then sorry and get an A/F guage just to see if its ok, they arent that expensive ($50 for a good one GET AUTOMETER) and its in the faq how to install it.

What and where are you going to get? I have a '92 Si (non-VTEC) and the ECU part # for my lude is P14 according to my research.

Yeah i was tlalking about a air/fuel guage, it's good to see where you are at when you get your vafc tuned.
And with the chips they all have different fule curves and what not, that's why people suggest the air/fuel guage.
I'll be getting mine probably at inlinefour in westminister, I have some credit there.

and yes your h23 code is p14 for the 2.3 liter non vtec lude.
for the h22's it's p13.
