check your brake fluid level. that light goes on when the brake fluid is low

Replacing the fluid may help in the short term, but the brake system is a closed system. Losing brake fluid may indicate some type of problem. Be sure to check everything out...

maybe his pads are wearing out and the fluid level is just going down accordingly?

Could be, but it shouldn't go down that much, and it especially shouldn't go down that fast.

my dad told me its most likely my brakes and i will need to replace them. finacially i wont be able to do it for a while so pads and a refill wil have to be sufficient for now. ill have to replace my cv shaft and other problems first then onto a new brake system. the car has 140,000 on it, so im sure its about time.

thanks again for the help.
