Driving A LOT....oil change ?'s

everyone recommends to change at 5k, honda says 7500 miles. Im not trying to argue any way. everyone calls me crazy for just "letting" it go more towards 7k miles for the change, but i drive so damn much with school and everything its hard and quite expensive to change it every month or so. is it safe to let it go more towards 7k and have longer drain intervals or is it best to stick towards the 3k mark? which oil is best....castrol gtx?

oh, what are the advantages of using 10w-30 vs 5w-30 in the summer?

7k MILES HOLY CRAP.. suppose to change every 3k.. i change mine every 2k-2.5k i cant answer your question about which to use in summer.. but i can suggest to change oil every 3k if you can.. keeps nice flow of clean oil through the engine..

I change it myself every three months or 3k miles. I use 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer, I'm assuming more protection. I use valvoline oil and it seems to work good enough for me but it's probably not the best out there.

blah to that. Thats just an old practice being applied to modern day oils and engines.

I personally change mine at ~4.5k and run an oil analysis through blackstone labs at every change. My car has over 146.5k on it and nothing wrong has come out of running my oil longer.

I change my oil every 5k. I'm using Mobil 1 Synthetic, and i just add a bit of oil here and then when its low. Hondas LOVE oil. After 3k the oil isn't too dirty, thats why i take it up to 5k.

the W is the weight at cold weather startups. the lower the W number (5W-30) the better the oil will flow in a cold weather start. incorrect but easier to remember, think of the W as Winter.

I would say as long as you are using a good oil filter and decent oil then you will be fine. when most people get their reports back from the lab analysis they are told they can hold off on oil changes past 5k. so you should be fine

yea that is the normal weight (viscosity) of the oil. i think 5W is good to like -40 degrees or colder before it freezes but i am not exact on that. i know that 10W degrees will freeze around -25 or something near there.

You ever notice that it is oil manufacturers and oil changing places that tell you to change every 3k? Honda would not tell you to do something that would harm your car. Changing at 5-7k is not as bad as you think.
