Drain coolant for short ram intake?

I got the AEM short ram intake in the other day and the instructions state that I need to drain at least 1 gallon of coolant from the car. For those who have installed the intake, do you have to do this? If so, where's the best plug to drain it from? Thanks.

what? I've never heard that you have to drain coolant...I have no idea why you would want to do that..

no coolant lines even run to the stock intake..

That's what the instructions say. I believe it's the fast idle thermal valve they're refering to but I'm not positive. So are you saying you just put yours in without draining any anti-freeze?

you should be fine w/o draining any coolant....

on a side note:
can you do me a favor and take measurements on the intake before you install it? the length to the bend, bend angle, and rest of the length? i'm doing CFD analysis on aem cai vs. aem short ram intake for an engineering project.

I know a lot more people than this have installed intakes on their 4th gen Lude, folks. Some help would be nice. I guess the real question is did you guys have to unplug any coolant hose when installing your intake?... whether cold air or short ram, I don't think it matters.

The instructions from AEM say to drain some coolant...

To be honest, since part of my job involves writing instructional manuals, I usually take the documentation fairly seriously, but when I came to this particular step, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why one would need to perform this step..... and to be honest this kinda bothers me.. :P
