Dr. James/MachineHead/PreludeGod ... BRAKE HELP!?!

Hey guys, I'm in kind of a bind right now. I'm trying to upgrade my brake rotors & front calipers to the VTEC sized components. I bought the PowerSlot rotors (VTEC sized), and they are hitting the dust shields. The calipers are fine, but the rotors are hitting. Should I tell the mechanic to just bend the dust shield back? Or do I need to buy VTEC dust brake shields for the front? Thanks a ton for your advise.

bend them back, bend them back! Don't worry about it. That's what i did for my AEM OE big brake kit. Just bend them back enough so they don't hit and you'll be fine.

You can also cut them off. I just used a sheet metal nibbler and cut them off. I never noticed any difference in brake dust on my wheels or anything. And I wouldn't worry about debris hitting the rotor from the back. I had the Baer track kit, and I just cut them off.

Actually the sheilds are there to protect against back splash when driving through deep puddles that comes off the inner wheel well. Cold water and hot brakes create warpage...they are also supposed to limit brake dust but I see no big diff with mines bent back

WOW, THIS POST IS OLD!!!! I remember when I got my brakes done about 6 months ago. That's pretty cool that this post came up again. I feel warm and fuzzy now... By the way, the brake swap was totally worth it, and I thank everybody for the advice and recommendations.

Peace,
J
