i just wanted to make sure the wd40 wouldnt hurt anything
Acccctuuuuaaallllyyyy.......
WD-40 is a pretty lousy lubricant, compared to others on the market. Yeah, it penetrates pretty well, it's cheap and easily available, and does an alright job at making stuff slippery. However, it evaporates VERY quickly and offers little lubrication after a few days (especially in a dirty environment subject to water like a door jamb). Don't get me wrong, WD-40 will probably get the job done, but a silicon based lube or LIGHT grease might keep your door squeak-free for longer (don't use anything too thick, as it will just attract dirt and grit).
dunno, I found an aerosol can of the stuff in my garage, but you can probably get it at walmart or anywhere else that sells car parts or home improvement stuff
i hate WD. i work on garage doors and this stuff makes squeaks louder after a couple days (that white lithium stuff is aight, but messy)... if you want the best go to a bicycle shop and look for TRI-FLOW. its a teflon based lubricant that is absolutely magical

I used to work in a bike shop, and that's where I developed my distaste for WD-40. We sold tri-flow and used it religously for lubricating chains, cables, shifters, and other small pivots.
