Hey guys, I just received from Crutchfield this pioneer deck that I ordered. And since I got it from crutchfield, they included the dash installation kit and stuff. Now the kit that they provide eliminates the little storage pocket that sits under the factory deck. In its place is an opening for an EQ, or, if you don’t have an EQ, they give you a plate to cover up the opening with. I don’t really want to lose that storage pocket, so can you guys offer some tips as to how to install my new deck without losing the storage pocket? Will I still need to use the mounting kit? Will it need to be modified, etc.? Thanks! Oh, and yes I have a 4th gen VTEC, ’94 to be exact.
You'll probably want this in the car audio forum....
How wide is the deck? I have a Pioneer deck, 1-DIN size that fits above the storage area fine; I then added a Pioneer EQ, also 1-DIN size. Both fit perfectly.
I got mine from crutchfield too. I ended up getting another mounting kit with a pocket. They have the one with a pocket at Best Buy. I don't remember the company name, but they should know. It's about $15.
When I got my HU intalled... they just put in a block plate for the lower DIN slot. I really ont mind, and it saved me $15 over the one with a stoage slot in it. I plan on putting guages in there, so Im sort of glad I got the flat block plate... now I can just cut it to fit guages instead of dealing with a pocket.
When I got my stock double DIN cd/tape replaced with aftermarket they put in a pocket kit. Pretty common, shouldn't be hard to find on at circuit city or best buy. Where else would I keep my change?
You just have to pick up a new mounting kit...they are pretty generic...you have to remove certain tabs to make it fit (according to the instructions) anyway shouldnt take you more than 20 mins, oh and crutchfield is a huge rip off...

You cant put them in USDM ludes unless you did a RHD conversion. Trust me... I tried...
PS: It isn't so much a pocket. It is a small drawer that slides out from the underside of the dash. I beleive it is supposed to be used as an extra ash tray.
