do LSD's ever wear out/break?

i was thinking about this and since they do quite a bit of work do they ever wear out or break or lose effectiveness?

it all depends on what diff you are talking about... quaife offers a lifetime warranty on their units... even if the car is raced...

Actually you will pay about the same price for either one. The Quaife goes for about 800 bucks. The JDM stocker is made by Cusco. It is a clutch type unit and it will start slipping when the clutch disks start to wear out. You can buy a rebuild kit, but by the time you buy the JDM LSD, and a rebuild kit you would have been better of buying a Quaife

Clutch LSD's wear out eventually. Viscous LSD's don't wear out.

ok...so let me get this straight. as long as my clutch disk is fine the LSD will work how it is supposed to? does having an aftermarket clutch effect the performance of the LSD?

When we refer to Clutch type LSD's what we mean is that they have a clutch pack inside of them. They operate with friction just like your clutch against your flywheel. inside the LSD is a pack of clutch disks and steel plates. So they are refered to as Clucth type LSDs. You actual Clutch has nothing to do with the LSD.
