Do brake lines wear out?

My car is 12 years old now. Brakes are kind of mushy. The prices I saw on SS lines were like $120, which I will probably avoid.

Would it be advisable to replace my rubber lines with new rubber lines, while I am doing rotor/caliper replacements?

Thanks,
Swami

yes they wear out. they are under tremendous amounts of pressure during breaking, and the rubber will break down. if you cant afford SS lines, then new rubber ones are fine. but i seriously wonder if you can get new honda ones for that cheap...

well... Maybe I should be convinced to go the SS route.

Is this a worthwhile upgrade for a 92 Si with I/H/E ??

I'll be using Vtec calipers and rotors.

Is $120 a good price (first price I found)

And the rubber isn't just standard rubber tubing? You have to get a kit specifically for the Lude?

Thanks,
Swami

Personally, I like the feel of a hard brake pedal. For some reason it gives me more confidence rather than a mushy one. Since SS lines give a harder response, maybe sometime in the future I'll change mine out.

Well, Si or VTEC, it's really up to you. I've seen several lines go for $120 or around there...so I don't think anybody's stealing your $$.

You also might want to replace your brake master cylinder. It causes a mushy pad when its worn out. Rebuilt ones from Pep Boys are like $80 or something

It might make it mushy to some degree but the problem is when it starts do go is that the pedal will get firm like normal then slowly go down to the floor.
