disengage the abs

when i got my lude.....the abs light was already on and wasn't working.......no biggie.......did a brake fluid flush.....then after about 2 weeks.....my pedal starts to lose pressure.....so we bled them again with a possibilty of air still in system....this time for sure there was no air......now same symptoms again.......losing brake pressure......

could the broken abs be messing with the braking? i want to disengage whatever is working/not working with the abs.....don't have time to remove the whole system/know how.......i was looking at fuses and there are four.......should i pull all four out?

has anyone just disengaged their abs?

thanks

My thoughts exactly. Common item to fail on the 4g.

Yes they fail frequently on our cars and many people have replaced them, the replacement is very straight forward. If you can bleed your brake system you can do it. A remanufactured part runs about $60 from any auto parts store if memory serves correctly.

Here are the primary symptoms of a failing cylinder:
- Pedal occasionally "sinks" to floor when pushed (may not happen all the time)
- "sinking" gets worse are brakes become hot (fluid viscosity goes down, and can leak around piston more easily)
- Usually no problems on highway (brakes stay cool)

If that is indeed the problem, you better thank your lucky stars. . .have you even priced out replacing ABS components?

It's either $60 or $90, can't remember exactly. The clutch master cylinder fails frequently also.

still haven't fixed the problem (i know its bad) but i was going to replace the master brake cylinder/booster (it all comes together) but the guy i get my parts from (he owns a body shop) said i have to replace the whole abs system.....which i think is wrong.....the brake system should work w/o the abs on shouldn't? i really don't care for abs anyways.....

Do you want to keep the ABS? I removed mine this weekend, if you do I have a working ABS ECU.

If you don't then remove the ECU, to do this you'll need to remove your rear seats and the lower rear panel

Yea changing the brake master cylinder is easy there are only 2 bolts holding it on and 2 lines coming out of it. Make sure you bench bleed the MC though.
