I had to use an impact gun and a deep impact 1/2 drive socket.

If you cant get the bolt out, try ti tighten it down a little, then back it off... Its what I had to to to mine.

The torque on that mothertrucker is 180flbs, and it is a pain in the ass to remove for the first time. There really isn't an "Easy" way to remove the bolt unless you have the tool. But yes it is counterclockwise.

Hahah yeah, Vern took mine off with my little 18" craftsman breaker bar with a impact socket (I broke one of these) and a hammer.

I had the car in 5th gear, held on the brakes, I had a friend hold the flywheel with a long screw driver (which eventually broke) and Vern was down there hammering away. Came off after like 5 minutes of continuous hammering.

Oh what would I do without you?

here's my tool (heh) :

I went to a bolt supply house and got a big nut to fit into the crank pulley, some angle iron, and welded it all up. I then jammed it into a big used (bent) motorcycle fork tube to add some leverage. Total cost : $3.00

I was going to make this tool as well, but I cannot find a bolt that was big enough. Where exactly did you get it from?

I just went to a bolt supply place and got one that was close. The lady at the counter just gave it to me for free! Unfortunately I don't have my own welder and had to use a buddies. I'm not very good at it tho and I think I'm going to take a welding course when I get a more regular schedule at work.
