Dimmer circuit

I was coming home early from work today because we have a "snow storm" and since visibility wasn't good I turned on my lights and put the dimmer to full on so I could see the gauges but the clock doesn't light up more, anybody found a way to get it to work with the dimmer? I started to look at the diagrams in my Helm but I thought that maybe somebody had already done that so I should ask first. Also if it works for the clock I guess it should also work for the JDM climate control...

If anybody knows how to do it it would save me some wiring diagram studying

that's what I meant, my clock doesn't work with the dimmer switch either and I would like to find a way to make it work with it. It's full lite when the lights are off but when you turn the lights on you can barely see it if it's not dark enough outside...

Hey,

Well mine dims with the dimmer control. It is very bright when I turn the dimmer all the way up. Maybe the EL gauge equipt cars had this function?

Nope, mine doesn't dim like the other guages. It's either in daylight mode or nighttime mode which seems to ignore my dimmer adjustment. FYI 96 prelude.

Well I know there is a dimmer control circuit board right next to the clock in a white box. I had to replace mine when I burnt it. You could possibly check the continuity of the wires coming out of it to see what dims the dash lights and plug the power wire from the clock into it. Don't know how that would affect it and I can't remember if the clock was off when my dash lights were off. I don't think it should matter. Just an idea.

This is the part I was thinking of

and this is where it goes.

these are the wires that run to the plug.

I know without that thing you won't have dash lights

It controls the brightness of the dash lights from the dimmer switch by the cruise control. If you test those lines you could figure out which wire controls the brightness.

Just a word to the wise though.... the little black box was 80 bucks from honda

on 5th gens, the clock dims when the dash lights are on- the dimmer has no bearing on it at all.

Good for the 5G

4G is the same way.

He wants the clock to get really bright like the dash lights when the dimmer control is clicked up all the way.

MR. CLIFFORD: I took a look in my Helm and my electrical manual and I think swapping the red/black wire (I think the wire is red/black on the clock too) might do the trick but I'll have to try it to find out... If the snow that we got yesterday melts and the weather is nice this weekend I might start taking the inside of the car apart so I can finish my JDM climate control so I might give it a try soon...

In the meantime, anybody with a Helm and that's good with electrical stuff could check if they think my rewiring could work?
