Difference in performance between 16,17, and 18" rims?

What's up everybody, well I just ordered my new suspension so that means it's now time for new rims. I'm kind of new to this so could someone tell me what if any is the performance difference between 16, 17, or 18" rims. I have my pick between any of them and I like the 18's look the best but the 17's aren't bad either but if the performance difference was big enough I'd go with the 16's too even though they do not look as good. Also I'm getting adustable ground control coilovers so dropping is in the immediate future, how much could I drop with each rim size and would one look better than the other? thanks for any help!

Well you're on the right track --> 16" is a better choice for performance, where as 18" is worse. Most people do go with 17" since it's a combination of performance and looks, but you have to decide what you want overall. You can always adjust the coilovers based on what rims you have.

18's will def. slow you down in the straight line, but don't jump on the "bigger-is-worse" bandwagon just yet...

A while back, Grassroots Motorsports did a test w/ three drivers w/ different size wheels on an autox course. The bigger the wheel, the faster the times got.

What these guys have said.

I've got 17"s for the road and 15"s for trackdays

The bigger rim you get, the longer your gears will be... Just common math application.

Wrong! The size of the wheel has nothing to do w/ the gearing. It's if you use a bigger TIRE that will change gearing, and your speedo. Most people use lower-profile tires so that the overall diameter stays the same.
