difference 94 and 96 (more please read)

Due to my timing belt breaking I am having a motor from a 96 si installed in my 94. I know that OBD1 was 94 and OBD2 is 96 but my ecu isn't being changed so will everything work? Also anyone that is mechanically inclined please read. My mechanic explained to me that when my belt broke the valves hit the pistons and by this happening the rod bearings may develop flat spots on them, that eventually these will spin and my bottom end will be trash. I was there to see the extensive valve damage(all bent) and the head repair was $1400 compared to a 62k mile motor, new belt, pump, clutch and ported and polished intake manifold for$2100 installed w/ 6 month warranty. A leak down test produced air coming out of the crankcase breather which led me to believe the pistons were damaged. Just hadn't heard of the rod bearing scenario. Any replies appreciated, Collin

Yep, the bottom end will probably be trash eventually as well. BLAMMMO...

You can use the 96 motor no problem, just use your distributor from your current motor. I don't think any of the sensors are different, but if they are just swap them over from the old motor.
