Did i get a good deal?

im new around here but might be leaving soon also. i need some advice on my car i have a 93 si 5spd w/ 74k miles interior is in good condition has had oil changes every 3k miles but needs work
i paid 5500 and it needs timing belt, water pump, head gasket, oil pan gasket cv's and mabey a new radiator i can sell the car as is and get more than i paid with no money into it or fix it up and have a good car, the work was estimated at 1400 plus price of radiator and labor of install what would you do? or do you want a new prelude?

how much for the gaskets?...timing belt...hhhmmm that should cost around $400...new radiator=$140 and you could probably install that yourself...thats pretty easy...i did mine myself...water pump..go to the junkyard..get it cheap...it shouldnt cost you that much...do a search...some of them are pretty cheap..you could do some of the labor....

That sounds about right.

I know the timing belt is at least $500 with labor, and a radiator lists for over $400, and water pump a tad over $100. Labor for the other stuff is what will cost ya. You will save money if you do this all together because you won't have to keep taking stuff apart.

I don't know if someone will want to buy the car if it needs all that work done, unless you don't tell them If you fix it, you can sell it for what you paid plus the cost of repairs.

It is still relatively low mileage, so keeping it wouldn't be a bad idea either

Hmm... I figured I quoted high. Just got a price from hondaautomotiveparts.

I do agree that you should do your own radiator, but let them do the rest

do you have a helms manual or a shop manual? that is a good way to start learning about your engine...so you can start working on your own car...

I paid $530 for timing belt, balancer belt, balancer seal i think it was, cam seals, crank seals, water pump, valve cover gasket, sparkplug tube seals, an 2 new accessory belts all of that installed. bought al my parts from www.hparts.com. An also got a oil pan gasket i did my self included in that price. CVs are $60 for a rebuilt axle i believe, an u can install em urself. raditaor is $140 like they said an is easy to install urself. dont but a used water pump cause if u are gonna pay to have it installed might as well be asured that it is gonna give u some service for a lil while. Or u have the option of just getting a JDM H22 with tranny for $2200 shipped an not haveing to deal with any of that excpt the radiator. which if funding permited would ve my suggestion. If u have any questions on any of this hit me up on AIM my SN is BlueLude1 or email me at DaneWalter@msn.com I have done everything but the head gasket (which i would have done by a professional) an i have no prob answering questions

good luck
an keep ludeing

Sounds like a good deal even with repairs...My friend just bough a very clean 93 Si with 93k miles for 7200+tax...This car is very tight and needs nothing but $300 in body work!
