Determine Prelude Model?

Hi all,

I just bought a 1995 Prelude. I was told it's an Si, and I want to verify. It's definetly not a VTEC. It's a 5-speed manual though.

I've flipped through the manual and tried to see if there were distinguishing things that seperated the S from the Si.

Are there other models in the US besides S and Si?

Also, how can I tell which engine I have? (Is it written somewhere?)

Thanks!

look to the left of the exhaust manifold. on the block there is a stamp. h22a1 = vtec, h23a1 = si, f22a1 = s. let us know which you've got, lets see some pics too.

edit: also on the drivers-side door jamb, there should be a decal that will tell you which trim you have.

look inside the door jamb on the driver's side. there's a sticker there that says the model and all that good stuff.

as for the engine... the engine code is written on the block to the left of the exhaust manifold and near the transmission housing. It should start off with H23, H22, or F22. H23's are on Si's, H22's are on VTEC models, and F22's are on the S models (assuming no engine swap was done).

Look at the VIN on the dash near the windshield.

It'll start with JHM then go....

BB1 = VTEC
BB2 = Si
BB4 = Si 4WS (?)
BA8 = S

4bidden,

Thanks for the VIN info! It's too dark and cold for me to find the engine code tonight and the sticker is not on the door jamb.

It looks as if I hav an Si.

I do need to repair some things. The display on the cassette doesn't seem to work and the antenna is broken off (the motor seems to still work).

I have some questions on wheels but I'll ask those in the wheels forum.

Hehe. . .your off to a good start. FYI, you can usually pick up antenna parts on Ebay (search for "prelude antenna") and maybe even an OEM radio as well (although, I say just upgrade).

you can look at the engine but you would have to be able to distinguish between sohc and dohc.

Well, red92's information still confirms I have an Si (not 4WS). And the engine/trany info seems to match up too.

By the way, on the ebay antenna idea, is this the right one?

There seem to be a couple different masts and lots of different motor and mast assemblies.

Shave the antenna, then you won't have any problem with the motor or the antenna breaking again, plus it looks better
