Depressing Day..

Well today i finally desided to go down to a shop and get an inspection on my axels because iv been hearing clicking when taking some sharp turns.. WELL turns out my axels are done and its gonna cost me like 600 bucks to get those repaired. Along with my muffler from the axel back which will cost another 450 ( if i want stock ) but he says he can do something custom for a couple hundred.

not a good day.

You're getting ripped off if you're paying 600 bux to have your axles replaced. What's wrong with your muffler? Is then entire system rusted to hell with holes or something?

I'm sure that price isn't just for the axles....did you take into account labor? Labor is going to kill you. If you have a buddy, or a family friend that can do it, and you have the time to spare, definately go that route.

Ask different shops for labor rates, and see if you can get hold of some used parts, because shops don't have to use their own parts; you can definately bring your own.

My $150 per side was including labor.

Yea I paid 135 for one side before with a reman.

Remans can be had cheap. For less than 100 dollars each. Labor should hover around an hours worth per side. If the shop is using OEM Honda axles then maybe 600 makes sense.

OMG!!! this gets me pissed off... when people like that RIP YOU OFF...

600 bucks its outrageous... 150 bucks its still a lot...

Like mentioned before, go somewhere else, or have a prelude meet on repairing ludes... thats what we do over here in cali, to help our lude brothers out...

We do anything from engine swaps, timing belt, to jdm side markers...

Hope for the best!

You know, if you look up a tutorial on replacing them, it's really not very difficult... the hardest part is making sure to not pop the new one out of socket.
You should be able to do it if you can get access to a torque gun or wrench and the right sockets (including the 32mm center nut) and some cotter pins when you put it all back together.
PM me and I'll try to right out a detailed version.

WOW... you can get half shafts at advance or auto zone for like 90 (at most) brand new not even reman and do it yourself... its really not hard to do at all... but 600???? WTF im a mechanic at a shop where i live and even i know thats a complete rip off..unless your trying to go to a honda dealership.. they told me it was 175 per shaft (without labor).. i looked at him laughed and then walked away in went to advance... and your exhaust is also getting ripped off on... 450??? wow you better be getting close to everything for that price with the exhaust.

No, everything bolts right up for aftermarket exhausts, it'll have 3 sections and each flange will just have 3 bolts, it's very easy. Custom is always a good thing to think of as well when it comes to exhausts since they can make something straighter and better flowing than most unless you want something that's quiet/looks good but minimal gains.

well you dont even need to get used or reman..i think it was like 70 for the driver and 80 for the passanger alxels and the remans were 10 dollars less so i just went with brand new ones for the 10 dollar difference.. and i still cant see a full cat back costing 450... thats still seems rediculously high

The guy quoted me 450 for AXEL BACK lol not full cat back. But he said thr 450 was because it was a stock prelude muffler. and if he did something custom it would cost me 350. but i know for a fact i could get like apexi full cat back for 450. but thats without labour. I didnt know it was all bolt on for a cat back? i thought i would need to weld thanks minilogoguy18!

and okay thanks alot kimara ill look into that for sure
