My 92 prelude has an auto tranny :-/ i have this case that when the climate is very hot my car at times does not want to start. When this happens my d4 light blinks and keeps doing so for a while. I usually wait until the light goes away. When ut does it runs fine w/ no problems. Has anyone encountered this issue with their ludes?? what to do? i have a thought that it might have something to do with my tcu (transmission control unit) if that is the right term... help???
damn, never ever heard of anyone having this problem. im guessing it has something to do with the ecu, not the transmission. looks more like an electrical problem than mechanical. ur best bet would be to take it to a dealer to let them test it. its an a** load of money, but i dont know what else to say. you could let them test it just to find out what the problem is. sorry i wasn't much help. just giving my 2 cents.
ohhh, LOL. I wasnt sure what that ment. OK i understand now. Is their some kind of service indicator or jumper for the transmission control? I would look in a helms, but mine is a little ways away right now. I should have my stuff this weekend, and i will look in their. I dont have much experice with the auto stuff though.
Move this over to General Discussion, would get more hits over there hehe.
any mods willing to do this?
i bought a repair manual for the car and i saw that the auto tranny had locking/unlocking solenoids. does anyone know if and when these start to fail, does the light begin to blink. also, does anyone work at a honda dealership ??
looking to get these solenoids if that is the problem i might need to replace them cause they sound a little weird at times.
update*** well i took it to a mechanic and he told me that a solenoid on the tranny was going bad.. one solenoid is for the shifting of the auto tranny and the other is to lock the tranny when parked.. im feelin that it's more of the shift lock solenoid..
**update II**
i finally went and placed a jumper in my connector and it threw out code 17 or 71.. dont know which would be correct. however, i did manage to find a table that showed a list of codes.. i only saw 17 which was a vehicle speed sensor... has anyone went through this ordeal??
for those looking for the answers to this look no further. im no mechanic but i work on my own S*** because i dont trust others. ha! ne way, ive had a spare tranny in my garage because mine never shifted right. got it from a buddy. after racing some jack in a truck "lol" and winning my tranny immediately started slipping after i left the club that night. i guess i fried it. drove my car for about 2 more days and and it ofcourse got worse. the car went into limp mode and would only allow me to drive in 2nd and 3rd gear. i quickly jumped on snatching the motor and tranny out to replace the tranny because im starting a new job in the next few days. through in the replacement transmission, slapped it in, new fluids and yep...D4 light. tried driving it with the light on. same thing. only able to drive in 2nd and 3rd gears. i didnt even have a d4 light with my old tranny. so i decided to run a scan on the car to pull the codes. the computer threw 2 wierd codes of malfunctioning solenoids. immediately i swapped out the front lower solenoid (brown plug under the black solenoid) and WALLAH!!! no more codes. im guessing that was the shift solenoid like someone mentioned earlier. kinda obvious because the tranny didnt want to shift on its own. but now it drives and shifts better than my old tranny. hope this helps
