Custom Console Fabrication

Ive been working on this for a while, but thought you guys might be interested. Its going to hold two gauges and a turbo timer.

Step 1. Looks kinda messy

Its gray!...but bumpy, time to re-do

turbotimerriffic

Here's my friends. We already finished his, but its bondo and heavy and fragile. Looks awesome though

im thinking of covering mine in vinly. What do you guys think about that?

P.S. this is my first fiberglass project.

I was thinking about doing this for some additional audio equupment. I would just paint it, I think it will match the console better like that. Good work. . .

NICE!

If it were me I would angle the gauges more towards me. But that is just me! Looks good!

He's modifying his factory center console so that he can fit various gauges such as the turbo timer he has pictured.

He's covering the pocket under the radio and the ashtray/power outlet with fiberglass and then he will make cutouts for whatever he wants to place in there

I've had something like that in mind for a while now...But I just don't think I'm capable of doing something like that. But yours looks great...Great work!!!! If you ever decided to mass produce and sell, I'd buy one

Well, this isnt a writeup, but this is what i did....

Cut up a piece of plastic to cover the little tray thing, but allow the perfect amount of space for the head unit. I JB welded that sucker in there.

I used about 6 layers of fiberglass cloth to cover the whole thing. The ashtray piece was a little hard. I just waited for the resin to coagulate (sp?) a little bit so it would keep a shape on its own.
I applied a few more layers of resin just to give me more room to even the whole thing out.

Let it dry, sand it smooth, then cut off excess...well..a little more than excess because it kinda humped on the left and right edges. Filled in the gaps with this cool epoxy stuff i got from wal-mart. Its purple. you just nead it with your fingers, apply it, and it hardens in a few minutes.

Sand with..say...300, then work your way up to 600 or more. It will feel like glass when you're done

Sand, primer, sand, primer, sand, primer...if its not even, use more epoxy or sand, depending on whats needed. That resin is HARD AS HELL!!!. Use a low-grit to take out the high spots

let see...i used a dremel to cut out the turbo timer slot.

for the gauge install, you can get a 2" circular drill bit thingy to make a perfect 2" circle. The rest you can sand out by hand, making sure to use a gauge to test-fit.

and there you have it. Im really thinking about covering it in vinyl. I guess we'll see..

I have no idea why this motor is in my lude. I got it when I bought my lude. I guess the previous owner screwed up the previous motor. Anyway, it turns out pretty good. 150hp@6100rpm (more hp) and 137tq@5000rpm (less tq).

Anyway, I will throw in a JDM H22A in the future (2 years later). So, it is ok for now. I don't race though.

sweetness. im currently exploring my options on placement of gauges. ive still got to get my hands on fmic, piping, and bov. then a couple gauges to start me off.

a friend in okc mounted his boost gauge on the drivers side tweeter cover, and then the air fuel maybe [cant remember] on the other tweeter cover. it looks tight
