Curious about dash lights

I got the car used so I don't know. Do the buttons for defrost/heater/vent light up? There are small lights at the top of the button that light when you press the button but at night I can't see which button I am pressing. I am kind of used to it now but the only button that lights so you can actually see it at night is the cruise control. Is this the way it's supposed to be or do I have some bulbs burned out?

They suppose to light up whenevery u turn on your dashboard lights. I got the same problem last month. Then, after I run over a freaking speedbum accidentally one day without slow down. All my buttom light went back on. Then last week, those buttom light were out again.
I think probably a wire got loose or something. Hope someone can help how to fix it.

Thanks for the input. I just didn't want to waste my time looking for a burned out bulb if there wasn't one there. Since I have never seen them lit up I wasn't sure if they were supposed to be. Oh well, something else to keep me out of trouble on Saturday!
