For the 4th gen cup holders that stay open, there's a way to fix them. It involes bending a paper clip 2 times, inserting 1 end into the gear part of the holder and the other end somewhere else, I saw the writeup YEARS ago but can't remember where.

thanks... that seems easy to do... one of the dificulties will be to find a hard paper clip but not imposible...

it dont uses any spring to make it go up? or the paper clip make the lid go up?

I have followed VFH "instructions" but I make the thing with the paper clip a bit short, it dont have to go all the way up when you push it, just past some "marks" that the cup holder has... I think that in the 1st pic they can be looked.

Cup holder closed - making pressure with my finger as if it were the spring, the lid remains flat.
Cup holder pics?-hpim1233.jpg

there are 2 arrows... the left one shows like a flat surface behind the rounded part (where the paper clip goes), the other shows like a fixed gear where a circle spring can go in
Cup holder pics?-hpim1250.jpg

that shows like a "L" where the other end of the spring can go in

I'm just pressuming... I will chek this weekend with one spring I have that is supposed to be from the car...

i didn't realize you were missing the spring too. you are right, that is where the spring goes. i would have taken it out so you could see it by itself, but i couldnt' get the metal rods out that hold the lid to the bottom portion. hpoe this helps!

for the one you have to push, you have chek that the spring is in the correct location...
if it is where it should go... maybe you have to rotate back the spring so it can make pressure to open the lid...

for the other one... you have the paper clip method?

it looks like if it were sanded... and now I can close it, but I cant open it...

I know this is old but just wanted to say thanks for the fix. Mine works like a champ.

Now all I need is 1 of the spring clips on the side to keep the whole thing in place
