Crack in the Block

Well from my previous post:
http://preludeonline.com/showthread.php?t=218050

Well they replaced the valves springs and pistons, and started up the engine, and the engine runs, except it was leaking a lot of oil. So my mechanic (uncle) went searching for the reason of all the oil lost, and he found a crack in the block. He told me that this was probably the reason for all the trouble in the first place. So I left with a difficult decision, find a block and replace it or scrap the car, considering its not worth beyond 3k. Let me know your thoughts and also any suggestions. Thanks

To be honest, I didn't know about the crack in the block until my timing belt snapped midway on a trip on the highway. I was getting it serviced for the timing belt issues, and they discovered the crack

My mechanic (my uncle) says that they can't weld the crack in my block because its in an akward position or something like that. He said he'd have an update for me soon, so I'll let you guys know
