Couple Concerns - Need Opinions

First my oil smells like fuel. I flushed my engine with Pyrol engine flush last time i changed the oil, and im thinking i didnt drain it completely. I am going to do change the oil again , and i hear i should disconnect the distributor and crank the engine a couple times to get all the oil to the bottom and out. Does this sound valid? Sometimes my car takes 8-10 cranks to fire, and im thinking i might not be burning all the fuel and that is the issue, but i need to do more research on this.

Second, my exhaust stinks. Im thinking my last engine killed my cat because it was on the fritz and blew white smoke at start up. Now i have a JDM H22 , and im hoping there isnt something wrong with it.

Third, im going through about 1/2 quart of oil every 2-3 weeks. I cant find any large leaks. I have noticed some build up in spots, but i have no idea why i could be burning\losing so much oil. I always wonder if i put the oil filter on properly. I always hand tighten and turn 7/8 of a complete turn.

Thanks For your time

Always nice to see another Tx luder on the board

I wouldn't recommend removing your distributor and then trying to crank our car. It would be such a PITA to put back in time. Instead, if you really want to do this, you could pull your spark plugs and wires, and then try cranking your engine.

I do NOT recommend trying to crank the engine while you have no oil in there. You're likely to cause damage to the engine.

have you done a compression test recently on the engine to verify that it has good compression across all cylinders?

The oil itself smells like fuel? So once you drain the oil, the oil in the drain pan smells like fuel?

Sorry, i meant pull the distributor wire or the spark plug wires. Yesterday when i drained my tranny fluid i used the same oil catch and it had the old oil still in it which smelled like fuel. This would make sense to me because i ran a quart of flush through it last time i changed the oil. I need to do a compression test. I will see if i can borrow a compression tester sometime this weekend.

a trick you can use to see if you have fuel mixed w/ your oil is to take out the dip stick and w/ the oil on the stick... try lighting it on fire....

if it lights on fire.... it means it has fuel mixed w/ the oil...

if it doesn't light on fire... it means there's no fuel mixed w/ the oil...

oil itself cannot be ignited...

Ooo nice ^... this only works if the fuel amount is quite a bit though right... if the oil significantly outweighs the amount of fuel on the dipstick, it wouldn't light right?

I would think that there should be a significant amount as well..

but since the guy is smelling fuel when draining his oil.. in his case he should try it..
