Could this be welded on? (Sway Bar Collar)

The picture only shows one of the screws damaged but they both actually are

Theres no way to hold that bracket up, so I'm wondering if I can get it welded (My friend suggested it, but Im just checking with you guys)

Thanks,

I bet you could have that fixed (maybe helicoiled) Anything can be welded, but you may want to have the option of taking that bracket off.

Yeah, the option to take that bracket off is nice, but realisticly..Im not too sure if I'm going to ever change the sway bar (Unless it craps out someway, not planning to go aftermarket)

thx for the response

I had that happen to mine..

I tired to reweld the bolts back in but they just tore out again..

When I welded the bracket directly to the frame rail, it just tore a big chunk out of the bottom of the sub frame.

What I ended up doing was drilling a hole right up through the rail and into the trunk and using a long 3/8" bolt and bolting the bracket that way.. I also welded a couple of pieces of 1/4" plate as "washers" on the floor of the trunk and on the frame rail.

It was the only method I could use to keep my 28mm anti-swaybar from tearing out..

Where is the other bolt?

I hope it holds for you because if it doesn't (like mine didn't) It is a PITA to fix because you will need to rebuild and re-weld that entire section of frame rail back together..

hmm would it be a wiser choice to weld a high grad steel plate over there, with bolt on the opposite end, and use high grad bolts hook up to there, i thought that was only a problem with a neurspeed sway bar??

theres no way to reach around there...so I dont know how I would put any bolts. Maybe if I drilled ?

The weld broke.. luckily it didnt take the firewall/whatever with it. Il take some pics when daylight comes around. Sigh

Man, this happened to yet another 4th gen w/ sways, huh? About a year after I got my Neuspeed 28mm sways on (the last batch they made of the '"race" bars), the bolts came loose on the left rear bracket. So, I didn't look at torque specs, and overtightened the bracket bolts. Later on, the bracket completely ripped out. I took it to my body shop at the time, and they did a half-a$$ed welding job on the bracket, and it just ripped right out a few weeks later.

My ex-girlfriend's dad does highly custom body work, and I took it to him. He took the entire bar off, and cleaned up both subframe rails where he was going to re-weld the brackets on, welding ALL around the bracket contact surfaces. He reinforced both sides of the rear subframe w/ small plates, and welded everything up, and to this day, it's holding strong. I painted the welds & the brackets w/ rustoleum, which also helps.

Wierd how it outlasted my relationship w/ that girl....

Why do the bolts come lose? Is it just too much stress on that area?
