Im thinking of making a cooling plate out of aluminum. I dont think anyone makes one already ... i remember seeing one fabricated on prelude i think and im wondering if that was anyone here..
for those that dont know what it is see the picture below (civic) its a plate that goes in the front end to close off the area between your bumper and your radiator support so that the airflow goes mostly through the radiator and with less turbulance...
I don't think it'd work. If you block off one exit, the air will find another. Instead of the miniscule amoung coming out from the top, it will exit out the bottom, or to the sides. You'd have to block off all possible exits for any difference.

I've seen it before for preludes. Just some aluminum sheet and tin snips will do the trick. The picture you saw might have been of the one the guys in japan use. There's a prelude club over there that made them for it's members.

its not going to get every bit of air through the radiator you cant expect that... but the air that doesnt escape through the top because of the plate isnto going to go out the side....maybe just a little that are near the sides of the radiatior anyway and these plates have been used for some time in the realtime cars.. they claim that it works pretty good
Remember, the air has to go somewhere.
You dont want to direct all the air out of the bottom of the car, that could create some highspeed stability issues.
The BEST thing to do is have all the air go through the radiator, then out the hood ala. Lotus Elise. But the best way isn't always the easiest or the most feasable.
I went out and made a Cardboard template for an airbox but didnt do the plate yet. I dont think it will be too hard. After i finish the air box i might male one, but if someone else makes it i might go ahead and buy it.

ok, i have access to free steel/stainless steel, tig welder, mig welder and bending machines. This is all at my house. So once i get this all togheter if anyone else wants one i can easily make extras for a few $$.

Hymm, think the demand is there? I'd love to get these made, but beware, I'd engrave a tiny FM like the outline of this into a corner of it or something.
The only thing I see is that there is a LOT of bends. It'll take a pretty intricate jig to get those perfect. What are they made of? Sheet metal? Then painted?
Speaking of that....I need to go pull out my EGR gasket and get the dimensions off of it. Tired of seeing people get raped for $20 for them. :cough: bdb :cough:

$20 for a well made plate like the one I recently sold (in less than 10 mins I might add) -- apparently worth the money for someone!
You should see the nice thick aluminum one I had made to replace the entire EGR unit and block it off! Hell I'd pay 20 bucks for it!
