So I'm thinking about picking up a RHD Prelude while I'm here in Italy and I thought I would see what you guys think since I've never really dealt with Honda cars. Who knows, if it works out I may bring it back to the states when I come back in a few years.
Unfortunately I don't have any pics though. The guy is asking 4K for it, but I'm going to try and talk him down a little more. He said he paid 5k for it in December... The interior looks decent, there are a couple rough areas but nothing I can't fix. It has a double din kenwood dvd player (I think it stays with the car) and not sure of what speakers have been upgraded to. I'm not sure which motor is in it (it is the VTEC but that's all I know), but he said that is has been rebuilt. He said it previously had an H22 in it, but the guy he got it from swapped it out the this one which is supposedly a little more powerful. It has I/H/E and MSD Ignition and some momo wheels that will definitely have to be swapped out....
The only problems he told me it had was the hazard light switch needed replaced (he has a replacement) and the Idle sensor or something like that needed replaced. He said the idle would spike to 3K sometimes and that would fix it. He said the part is $150 - $200, but I would think I could find it cheaper.
I haven't had a chance to drive it, but I do plan to in the next few days.
I sent him a message asking if it has been wrecked or repainted, which motor is in it, mileage, and if he has documentation of the rebuilt motor. I'm just waiting on a reply.
I got a partial reply back and he said it definitely hasn't been wrecked, but possibly repainted by previous owner. And he doesn't have documentation of the rebuild because supposedly the new owner couldn't find it before he left.
Had an H22, but swapped for something else that's VTEC? Only thing it could be (If still DOHC) is the H23A VTEC, but I didn't know that came in the EDM, unless it was imported. Definitely find out which block it is.
If it was a SOHC VTEC, which would be a complete turn off for me...
Hazard Switch = El Cheapo to replace.
Idle Sensor? Maybe TPS Sensor? = Still cheap $30ish for one.
But that's not the only thing that could cause idle fluctuation. But be several other things.. But most easy to fix/replace, just have to find the culprit.
What's the color?
Auto or 5spd? Color of interior? Model? Chassis Number?
^^Just stuff to know to help give you better advice.

Yeah, I can't remember what sensor it was. I have it in a different email but I can't access it here at work. I don't mind having to work on it a little bit as I enjoy doing that kind of stuff. It is a 5 spd with gray/black cloth interior, I emailed the guy that had it before, so hopefully I will find out more about it.

I know the rules are pretty strict. I briefly looked at them, but I would find out the details before ever attempting it. I'm going to be over here for 4 years, so I may change my mind before then...lol Just depends on what I got done to the car.
Are the engine and transmission codes in accessible places? I mean if both happened to have been swapped out where would the codes be? I did email the person that had it before, so hopefully he will enlighten me on the car a little more.
Oh and the part he said needs replaced is the Idle Air Control Valve....
Yea, the engine and transmission codes are very accessible.
The Engine code is stamped right under the Water Neck coming from the Cylinder Head. On the left side (Facing the car), transmission side.
It's a letter followed by two numbers, followed by a letter, and possibly a number again.
The Transmission code is just to the left of that on a white sticker with a bar code also. It's goes, letter, number, letter, number, followed by a serial number. All you're interested in is the first combination.
If you need a sample picture, I can provide you with one.

that's a pretty clean looking engine bay - much better without the cruise control and the evap or whatever emission crap used to be above the PS reservior
That Engine Bay is user "@ries" car from H-T. The overall car is clean.. He has the beautiful Mugen'ed Prelude. It's very nice.
And rushr, ok, those are both JDM pieces. So you're good.. That Transmission doesn't have an LSD though. And it's from a JDM 4thGen.
Well, I think I'm going to pick it up. I drove it yesterday and it seems to drive pretty good. I think it will be a fun car and something else I can enjoy modding, although my wife will hate me doing that again..lol
Where is a good place to find the IACV? How much do they usually cost? I didn't have much luck in the sale forum here, although I didn't look for anyone that is parting out a car.
Can't remember if I saw that thread or not, but I'm definitely checking it out. I really appreciate all the help. Definitely makes a noob feel a little more welcome. I'm a mod and admin on a couple other car forums and you don't always see this.
