I think that it has to do with the fact that the shift linkage is relocated to a higher spot on the lever, which 1) reduces the length of throw due to mechanical advantage of the lever, and 2) bends the cable into an angle that is more drastic. This is where the wear might occur. There may be other concerns, but this is what I have heard. I can imagine that it might not be good for the tranny if it is preventing full travel of the shift lever and prevents proper movement of the tranny internal parts.

I have one myself (an OBX that I got from Ebay) and it seems fine. It actually feels better to me than stock, which I don't hear too often. Furthermore, mine didn't require me to modify my shift boot or my center console, which makes me think that mine might not change the point where the linkage connects as drastically. I always hear bad things about buying off brand stuff from Ebay, and this is the only item other than clear lenses that I have gotten that way, but I am happy with it.

yo i baught a short shifter adapter the obx off ebay and i had it on for maybe a month worth of driving and it blew a syncromesh between 2nd and 3rd gear. i also didnt bent my cable i shaved part of my shift boot. i think that they feel good when there on but if you ever take it off you will feel that your tranny is messed up. i heard that our transmisions arent the best for shifters and most likely will fail at some point. i can say that its not a lie that these adapters f*ck up your tranny. just learn to shift better.

The H22 trannies fail for various reasons, I don't believe they fail because of short shifters. It IS easier, though, to misshift with an adaptor, so you need to be careful. By itself it shouldn't damage anything, though.

I have the neuspeed short shift adapter, it is harder to miss a shift with it. Less slack in the shifts to miss. I like it a lot. Definately would buy it again.

For $300 you are probably talking about the C's short shfter. This is a full replacement not an adapter. Dr. James had one on his Lude.

I have the DC sports one and I modded my shift boot and it has been on for about 4 months and no problems yet, but before I modded my shift boot I would sometimes miss gears because the center councel would get in the way. But I would buy it again if I had to. Just my 2 cents

I had the B&M adapter, which had 3 settings. It was adjustable, so it was VERY important to make sure that you could make every change smoothly before putting the console back on.

If you don't adjust it for smoothness and ease of shifting you can damage a shift fork and grind down your synchros when you try and force it into gear.

I got a piece of wood I need to fit over my shifter, I am going to make a custom wooden shift plate, should look tight, found them in some lambo's --- looked good.
