I've never of that. You may be refering to the starting air valve. This opens up upon starting the engine and supplies additional air. I think this is the vacuum line you were refering to earlier that you wanted to plug into your intake. This one you can reattach or just leave open because it only opens on start up and then closes again, which means you won't have a vacuum leak during normal driving.

Got the AEM short ram installed today. Very easy. Also removed the resonator and that was alot easier because at some point the previous owner must of had it out and put it back as the hard to reach bolt near the front bumper was already removed.

Got the line coming from the valve cover going to the fitting on the short ram and have the starting air valve plugged. Noticed a small amount of oil inside the old factory air tube where the valve cover line goes so will probably go ahead and put a breather on that. Didn't like seeing oil on the inside of my old intake tube and don't think I want it getting into the new one either.

Didn't really notice that much of a change in the sound of the engine except during heavy acceleration and up shifts. Other than that I now have what sounds like a single pop when I accelerate from idle. Pop goes any where from 1500 to 2300rpm. Don't notice it accept when going from idle. Also if I push somewhat hard and release the gas pedal, the engine seems to surge slightly just as I release the pedal.

Is that normal for a short ram?

Pop? weird. Maybe try disconnecting the battery to reset the ecu.

poppimg is the ECU overcompensating for the higher air flow, unplug battery for 1 minute then plug back in

Went and unplugged the battery. Pop is still there. Did further checking and pop seems to be from the top of the new air filter. Its made of plastic and it pops when it give it gas. Also does that when I turn the engine off.
When it comes time to replace the AEM filter, I'll look for one that doesn't have a solid plastic top.

OK got things figured out and working much better.
No one seemed to know what that small foam filter thing was so I went and called AEM. Its designed to go over the fitting on the starting air valve.
Yes thats right, a vacuum line that you do NOT want to plug.

I had this capped and it was causing the slight surging that I was having at low rpm. Capped it as an open vacuum line is generally bad. Well not in this case. AEM has an addendum to there instructions that goes over this but mine didn't come with it. This also took care of the odd popping sound I heard when giving it gas. Thought it was the end of the filter but it wasn't.

Bottom line, don't cap the starting air valve.

Bingo, thats why I said just leave it open or reconnect to the intake. Glad you got it to work

Yep was really suprised the difference it made. You'd think that you should cap any open vacuum lines so thats what I did and that one should either be connected to the intake, and the AEM doesn't have any provision for it, or left open like you said.
Just couldn't figure out the little foam filter, now that makes sense. Cut a small hole in it and slide it over the starting air valve nipple and used a black twist tie to secure it.
