Short vs CAI - How much rain do you get? How well do the roads channel water? Factor in the off chance that w/ a CAI you may suck up enough water to hydro lock your motor. Is it worth it? Only you can answer that.

Brands - there is something to be said about having a product designed to fit your car and mount up correctly. However is it really worth it it to pay $200 for a pipe and filter, especially when you can get an Ebay pipe and a filter for half of that.

I have a CAI on my car and i live in washington, very wet all the time and i've never had a problem with sucking up water. However i have heard of it happening to other cars, so its really up to you and how you feel about it

Your stock intake is a CAI type. The CAI phrase is just another way that the aftermarket labels their products to give the buyer the idea they are getting something different then stock when their in fact their not.Unless you plan to do some other significant things to your engine that would demand a different type of intake ,just stick to the Honda developed one you have because you will not gain any more overall power from changing it when one considers the effect such a change has on the engines entire power band. If your into a louder sound , you can either plug the path to the resonator on your stock intake or remove it completely. If you have a VTEC Prelude, you can get a 5th gen Type S intake which will enhance throttle response at low and mid rpms and maybe a little gain in power.

SH DRIVERS WRITE UP ON INTAKES:

When it comes to fuel economy the technology in the stock intake has you covered in a way that no aftermarket intake can. At low rpms, the stock intake acts to speed up the air flow which is best for low speed, fuel efficient operation. It does that by using 2 funnels, or velocity stacks as they are called ,and a valve that cuts off one of the air inputs to the air intake.

1: The air input to the intake goes thru a velocity stack that directs the air into the intake pipe in a orderly and efficient way that acts to speed up the air flow. Also this part of the air intake is in the bumper so the the intake can draw in cool dense air and so that the intake piping can be lengthened to the correct length for air tuning purposes.

2: Next the air goes down two air paths with one of those paths controlled by a valve .At low rpms a valve at the input to the air intake pipe closes one of two air paths to the rest of the intake piping. In the the same way that putting your thumb over a hose causes the water to speed up ,closing one of the intakes two air input passages acts to speed up the air flow which is ideal for efficient low rpm performance.Above around 3900 rpms. the air intake valve opens up given the engine a low resistance to air flow that the engine needs at mid/high rpms.

3: The air then travels thru a section of pipe and then thru another velocity stack to the air filter element.

4: Form the air filter and in the case of the Type S Intake thru another funnel and in the USDM intake just on a plane section of pipe and on to the throttle body.

5: At low rpms the throttle body when at cruising speeds is only partially open, which like the air valve at the entrance to the intake ,acts to speed up air flow in the same way.So in effect the valve at the input to the air filter is like a second throttle valve placed in a location where it can act to speed up the air flow.

Keeping the velocity and momentum of the air up as it goes thru the intake piping helps the engine to produce power in an efficient manner at low rpms which leads to lower fuel cost for the user.

In conclusion having a device that works to provide for what the engine needs be it low or high rpm operation is what the stock intake is good at and its hard to believe why anyone would want to replace it .

It's such a small mod that does very little for power, if you have no plans on changing the intake manifold or throttle body I'd get the Type S intake and use a K&N filter, otherwise just buy a eBay one and throw away the filter and get a better one.

its useless to buy some brand name intake, when you can get as good stuff from ebay much cheaper. some say that get that intake pipe from ebay and perhaps injen air filter

bigger throttle body only brings problems if your engine arent highly modded

I'm just saying that if further down the road you do more to the engine and end up getting a larger TB the Type S intake will not fit, otherwise it's the best hands down, there was even a dyno comparison on honda-tech.

My intake is just an ebay SRI with an AEM dryflow filter, car came with the cheap intake and I just threw away the filter that was falling apart and got that one.

You don't need a highly modded engine to take advantage of a larger throttle body but you better have a good IM and exhaust system to match for it to make any difference.
