Cold air bypass valves

So I've been reading into intakes, the pros and cons of CIA's and SRI's. The cold air is obviously the way to go because you can prevent hydro-lock with a bypass valve. But from what i see is that its a band of plastic with some foam around it, giving the air another way in if the pipe gets flooded. So if the bypass valve is just an opening in the pipe(i.e. a foam spacer) whats stopping it from pulling in the hot engine air when you punch it or any other time, although its supposed to be "Pressure Sensitive"? I'm a little skeptical, does anyone have some insight on this?

Well, for starters, you don't really understand how the bypass valve works.

Sounds to me like you pretty much figured it out. The bypass valve pretty much negates the already small benefit of running a CAI. However, if you are not retarded, you will be fine with a CAI and no bypass. Avoid driving with the front bumper almost entirely submerged and hydrolock won't be an issue. Drive through a lake, and it will be.

Personally, I have a CAI, and I just keep a screwdriver in the car so I can disconnect it from the TB on the off chance that I cannot avoid a gigantic deep puddle. To this day I have still never had to use that screwdriver.

I never had any issues w/ my cai. That was in the old days, though. Before all the hydro-lock fear-mongering!

Same here. My car is lowered and my street likes to flood frequently, yet I've never had a problem. Like I said, if you are not an idiot, you will be fine with a CAI that is bypass valve-less.

well sometime u never know how deep water is driving in the city. I threw a rod out of my engine with a cai before so be careful with that I would get the bypass if I was you. I got a wepon R intake that works as a cai without the filter being near the tire it snakes right behind the battery. this is the tye I would get if I was u.

^If the filter sits by the battery, then it's not a cai.

I'm pretty sure I can tell the difference between a puddle that is a few feet deep and one that is only a few inches. If I can't, I won't drive through it. Problem solved, no worthless extra parts required.

Nope, he drove through a lake like a 'tard. That doesn't mean I'm stupid enough to do that to.
