coilovers ride horrible....why

hey i just installed a set a of coilovers on my Si and dropped it all the way... first of all, it doesn't look "4 inches lower" and second of all it rides like ****. my friend has his coilovers set all the way down and his car rides like ****, but that is a 4 inch drop compared with my 2.5... can anyone telll me why the car wont slam? are the struts too long? and why does it ride horrible when i get up into 3rd????

its cause you dropped them all the way... raise them up to a normal height so 1) they look decent and not ghetto slammed 2) your car doesnt bounce on the highway 3) you wont hit your bumpstops by running over a rock.

It might be because the dampers are not matched to the high spring rate of the coil over kit. Another reason might be that you are riding on the bump stops.

Did you replace your struts too? b/c if you didn't it will ride WORSE soon. its just a good rule of thumb to do those when you get coilovers/springs.

the lower you go with coils the stiffer you making the spring meaning you will feel more of the road. and unless every road you drive on it perfectly paved, then its gonna suck.

my suggestion is raise it to stock settings, and lower it 1/2 inch at a time and take a ride to find the perfect setting for daily driving. and you can always set it lower for show/races/dates lol..etc..and higher for the winter and ****.

good luck

Hey, who did the install.? Did you cut the bumpstop down? If your gona drop it, then you need to cut like 3/4 of the bumpstop off. Maby more? Just leave like a 1inch sliver in there.

Most likely, you didnt trim that down, which makes it not drop all the way and your driving a big hunk of rubber and not the springs. I have been running on my Skunk II's with about a 2-2.5in drop on stock struts and it rides decently. Thats been like that for over a year.
