clutch prob

well, i went out to take my gf home, pushed the clutch in to crank the car, and when i let my foot off, the pedal stayed on the floor. I haven't looked real closely yet, but clutch/brake fluid is on the ground, coming from the area of the shift fork. looking in my chilton repair manual it looks like the clutch slave cylinder is in that area, so i'm guessing that is the prob... anybody have any suggestions?

I think your right, the slave cylinder probably went out. Just go pick up new one, and also pick up a bottle DOT3 brake fluid and swap the cylinder out and bleed the clutch. Then it'll be as good as new.

Better get that prob fixed right away......You can really mess up your gear box if you dont. A few days ago my slave cyl gave out (no warning at all) during a high rpm shift into 3rd. and messed up the synchros .
I did not have to change the whole cyl. but was able to get a seal kit from my local dealer. I also changed the seals in the master cyl as well. I have not gotten the gearbox fixed yet.

I took out the slave cylinder today and it was more or less demolished, the boot and plunger had seperated from the cylinder itself. I bought a new one from autozone and installed it... but i am a little concerned. I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but after bleeding the fluid, i had to pump the clutch pedal with my hand at least a hundred times before it started building up pressure. Like i say the car drives and shifts fine now, but there is a lot of freeplay in the clutch pedal ( it pushes in at least 2 inches before it really starts to engage), and there is a spongy feeling to the pedal and it seems to delay for a split second in popping completely up after i let off of the clutch pedal. I bled the system the way described in my repair manual, but from these symptoms it sounds like there might still be air in the system. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Yeah don't worry about how long it took you to bleed it, took me that long as well. I think I literally spent like 30mins just pumping the pedal. I suggest that you rebleed the lines one more time, then you should be set. Also make sure you keep that master cylinder filled up while bleeding, because being the idiot I am, last time I was bleeding them, I let it run out and spent quite a long time rebleeding hahahaha.
