Clutch pedal pressure...Slave cylinder?

Lil while ago my clutch pedal pressure went dead and i fill up my slave resoivor and bled the clutch and ive had to fill that lil thing up about every three days so it doesnt run out. Ive tried to find the leak but i couldnt. Now could this be a bad salve or master cylinder thats causing this to leak or what? Im just kinda pissed b/c it was my first day back form class and i ran out of fluid and got stuck on the side of the road and had to call my g/f to bring me some brake fluid

The slave cylinder is located on the front of the tranny right by the radiator and front motor mount. The Master is on the firewall, in the corner of the drivers side. Dr. James said that 90% of the time a 4th gen has a clutch cylinder problem, it's the MASTER leaking fluid INSIDE the cabin. This is exactly what happened to mine. There was fluid on the INSIDE of the cabin, on the firewall near the pedal assembly. I replaced BOTH units at the same time. The master was about $60 or so, and the slave was only like an additional $20. . .so I bought both for piece of mind. the slave is a cinch to install, and the master is pretty easy as well. The only tough part about the master is getting the clevis pin outta the pin that links it to the pedal. The small amount of room just makes using pliars really tough. I finally drilled mine out with a very small bit.

The clutch and brake systems are not at all interrelated. The fluid in one system in independant of the other. Try bleeding the brakes.

is the brake pedal sinking after a few miles driving around? If it is then you gonna need a new brake master cylinder soon

thank you for this post...

I just had a new clutch put in. And it felt kinda funny still so I took it back to get adjusted..

Well the guys said my master was leaking and it would be better just to replace both at the same time. He wants $350 for the job.

You can get OEM quality parts from most parts stores for about $100 (once you include new fluid, a bleed kit, and some flare wrenches). To install both took me maybe 90 minutes or so, but a BULK of that time was trying to remove the clevis pi.

get a slave from advance for $20, but it's probably your master, as I had the exact same problem. I got my master at a salvage yard for $25.

you could do that, but that seemed like too much work=), and its definately a pain to get it out, i decided to leave the pin in and just unscrew the shaft from the end with the pin. its a 12mm bolt you'll have to have a open end wrench to get it.

i actually did this just last night, the master was leaking into the cabin just like you said, and again just like you said its about 60 bucks, i got mine from napa for $65 plus tax i think, as for the slave, i dont think its leaking, so i didnt get another, but if it is leaking ill just take the one off the old USDM tranny =)

three fity, damn, do it yourself man, for that much you could replace both cylinders for about 80 bucks and you could get a bleeder kit and fluid and still have around 250 bucks do something cool to your car =)

p.s. and if you get the bleeder kit, you'll never have to have anyone ever bleed the clutch or your brakes, (maybe you'll get that brake problem figured out and again you save money)

I just had this problem and it was the slave cylinder. Replaced only that and it works beautifully.
