clunking sound when going over bumps

im getting a clunking sound coming from the front of my car, kinda like the one from the rear that the 4G's r known for.

the front motor mount doesnt look right... i dunno if its that or part of the suspension.

suspension is all stock, 93 Si, 117k on the odometer

any ideas?

Where exactly is it coming from up front, or can you tell?

yeh mines been making a similiar noise for a while now. I dont think its my suspension b/c i have taken it apart about 3 times in the past year and i didnt see anything wrong.

I'm thinking its my brakes..maybe the calipers because i sometimes hear a similiar noise when i press on the brakes backing out in the parking lot. Its just my guess...i'm not sure though. maybe its just a sign that the car is getting old.

but its been like this for more than a year and its been fine, so i'm not too worried about it.

my car makes all kinds of funky noises now...I just turn the stereo up, but my stereo sucks, so it doesn't drown everything out.

Your problem could be that your control arm(s) might be bent. I bent one of my upper control arms, and I got a metal knocking sound like yours. If it's bent, you might not notice it, even though you've taken your suspension system apart. The bearing in the control arm could be shot, as well. Good luck.

Kinda coming from the front? That sounds like the same thing I hear... sounds like the ABS actuator to me, I don't know why it does it, but it happens sometimes on the highway going over bumps, and once in a while on some bumpy roads around town.

had the same problem and determined it to be the front brake calipers, specially the front passenger side.

My ABS idiot light was on when I first bought the car... brought it in, turned out it was the RR wheel speed sensor. I've talked w/ some other people who've had the same problem on ludes.

You might want to test those to see if that's your problem. If you have a multimeter, it's not too tough to do yourself. Set it for ohms, and just test each wheel speed sensor. I'm sure there's something in the helms about it too... I haven't looked at that part yet.

The other thing you could do, if your ABS light remains on, there's a list of codes for ABS troubleshooting just like the DTCs for a CEL. I know it's that way w/ Toyota's, and I'm pretty sure Honda uses it too. You have to jump a different connector, but it should be the same procedure as pulling a code for a CEL.

Hope that helps you out-

-Erik
