Clicking antenna, help please!

well, my antenna clicks about three times each time it goes up and down. i'm thinking the motor is just set to the wrong length. the little cord thats in the mast eventually broke so i replaced it but it still clicks. anybody know how to fix this? if i take off the little plastic sleeve that goes on the outside it doesnt click....so its trying to move the mast less than an inch too much. its really annoying. can anybody help me with this?

thanks

Mine clicks when it's extrememly cold out side (below freezing). Other than that, it's fine.

Not sure what to tell you?

Mine did the exact same thing too, it was loud as hell and sounded like a machine gun whenever I started and turned off the car. So I just unplugged it, and left it half way up.

i think the clicking is what caused my first mast to break in the first place so i really dont want that to happen again.

My does the same thing... I bought a mast antena from honda for like $50 ..but it didnt fit...I got to modify the sleeve little bit ...then another problem that i got is that the mast didn't go down all the way when i turned off the engine....I then decided to take it off ...therefore its still in my junk right now...I plan to save it and get some kind of amplifier antena to put right on top of my rear mirror. Anyone know how much it will cost for just shave the antena hole?

mine does that too.. it clicks when the antenna is all the way up and when its all the way down!! theres still 1 feet of antenna sticking out when my car is off =(

i was thinking it might be that plastic zip tie looking thing inside the antenna.. maybe its not grabbing.. i've just been too lazy to take the trunk panel off, check it.. etc. etc...

its embarassing.. imagine, i roll up and park next to another fixed up car, some guy and his lady are dogging u, u turn off ur car, and TAK TAK TAK TAK TAK TAK .. ur antenna makes some wierd ass farting noise..

I just unplugged the power to the antenna motor. It stays down all the time, and I still get radio reception. So yeah... antennas suck.

Forgive me for being a novice, but how do you unplug it? Where's the plug? (mine's doing this too)

I had that problem too on my '92 lude, then my mechanic just sprayed WD-40 on the antenna as I turned the stereo on and off to retract the antenna...and it worked!!! no more clicking sound!!! just take a towel, spray WD-40, and wipe the antenna clean as its retracting...do this a few times until the antenna is clean, and the clicking will go away...

Mine did this for a while but I cured it.
All you need to do is get a rag or some paper towel etc and spray some WD40 onto the rag (don't be shy using it, the more the better), make sure the stereo is turned on and the antenna is extended fully.

Wipe the rag from BOTTOM TO TOP!! This is important, if you go from top to bottom all the crap will get caught in the sections where the mast differs in size, causing a loss in reception.
Once you have wiped it a few times, turn off the stereo and let the antenna retract. If the antenna doesn't fully retract, turn the stereo on and off (let the mast extend fully first though) and gently push on the mast to get it to go all the way down.

You will probably need to wipe the mast 4 or 5 times until it is fully cleaned and the WD40 will keep it lubed.

I clean mine once a week and it is as silent as a mouse with socks on

Hope this helps...

mine did the same thing and i got pissed off at it so i hit it a couple of times hoping it would never come up but it would just go tick tick tick tick. it was bad so i just disconnected the damn thing so i now have no more tick tick tick nosies from it.

to do this, open your trunk and remove the jack thats on the side, after you do that you should remove the carpeting covering your tailight and pull that away, then pull away the carpeting where the jack was at, when u do this u will see a little plug which you just take and unplug

and bam, no more antenna going up and down or that annoying tick tick tick noise
